The Plumas National Forest (PNF) experienced severe wildfire impacts in the 2010s, with approximately 65% of the Forest burned. In 2023, the Plumas was declared a National Priority Landscape and 402,654 acres were designated as the Plumas Community Protect Project. This project was awarded $274 million in federal investment (from the Inflation Reduction Act) for wildfire risk reduction.
S&K Mission Support was brought on through a sole source contract in June 2023 to assist the PNF in managing these funds, awarded to 11 contractors and nine partners. The S&K team is responsible for key aspects of the project, including project management, contract oversight, geographic information systems (GIS), and database management.
Since project inception, major accomplishments include:
· Designing an ArcGIS Online (AGOL) “hub” to store all maps and tools created by S&K and used by Forest Service staff as well as other contractors and partners
· Developing a tracker that uses SharePoint Lists that feed into a Power BI dashboard that combine both schedule tracking with GIS mapping
· Streamlining and standardizing processes and workflows as well as database cleanup and implementing proper file storage protocols
· Providing a monthly budget-to-actual report showing what has been spent against total budget by project
This project was initially set to closeout in 2027, however the PNF has deemed S&K’s work invaluable to the success of the Plumas Community Protect Project and the contract is undergoing a modification to extend the period of performance to 2029.
